The economy during the 1st quarter of 2009 is worse than it was at the end of 2008. I should know -- the store where I have worked as a shop girl for the past 2 decades closed during the 1st quarter of 2009.

If you have recently been laid off or think you may be laid off from work soon, join the club! In the fourth quarter of 2008, 508,859 workers were laid off from work according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. (1)
